The South West Karate Championship 2015 recently took place at the Clifton Hill Sports Centre in Exeter.
The day was a huge success with clubs entering as far away as Bath and Bristol with a total of over 130 entrants! All categories were fiercely contested with a very high standard of application and undertaken in good spirit.
Success for Exeter was provided by Tom Adams, our 1st dan 15 year old Black belt, he won his fighting (kumite) category with some excellent timed punches and quick movement throughout his fights, Tom is currently training towards his 2nd Dan which he will be taking next year.
The other team members consisted of Tom Colwill, Rob Crew and Aleksander Nicopulos. Rob (Green Belt) on his first outing in competition managed a third place in both Kumite and kata in the under 4 Kyu (purple and white belt) category. Aleksander (Purple & White Belt) also performed very well in his first competition and is looking forward to competing again next year. A special mention must be made for Tom Colwill (Brown & White Belt), who was seconds away from a referee’s decision on his extended bout to the eventual winner of the adult kumite category, on his way to that fight he has already beaten last years Devon Championship winner in both Kumite and kata! Well done everyone!
